چکیده

Background Area at risk measurements often rely on T2 weighted images, but subtle differences in T2 may be overlooked with this method. Quantitative T2 mapping may bring us beyond some of the technical limitations associated with T2-weighted images (Giri et al JCMR, 2009). We hypothesize that T2 quantification can detect differences between salvaged and infarcted myocardium within the AAR in a reperfused model of acute myocardial infarction.

Distinction of salvaged and infarcted myocardium within the ischaemic area-at-risk with T2 mapping.

AIM Area-at-risk (AAR) measurements often rely on T2-weighted images, but subtle differences in T2 may be overlooked with this method. To determine the differences in oedema between salvaged and infarcted myocardium, we performed quantitative T2 mapping of the AAR. We also aimed to determine the impact of reperfusion time on T2 in the AAR. METHODS Twenty-two dogs underwent 2 h of coronary occ...

Relationship between the transmural extent of high resolution parametric (T1- and T2) mapping and the ischemic area at risk defined by pathology

Background Delineating the area-at-risk (AAR) is crucial in determining the amount of salvaged myocardium following an acute myocardial infarction (MI). Myocardial parametric mapping (native T1and T2-mapping) has been promoted as an excellent method to delineate the AAR, and image reproducibility appears to be superior to that for blackblood TSE imaging [1]. However, robust validation of these ...

Determination of the area at risk using quantitative T2 mapping in re-perfused myocardial infarction; a comparison with late gadolinium enhancement and CINE imaging

Methods Between Feb.2012, June.2012, 15 patients with acute MI underwent cardiac MRI after percutaneous primary coronary intervention (PPCI). Acute MI was diagnosed, based on EKG, coronary angiography and cardiac biomarker. In short axis view, every analyzed myocardium was subdivided into 30 sectors evenly using commercially available software (Argus; Siemens Medical Solutions, Erlangen, German...

Consequences of reperfusion

Coronary artery reperfusion after temporary coronary occlusion is the only measure that can prevent irreversible damage of cardiac tissue. The later that reperfusion is established, the less myocardial tissue can be salvaged: in the dog, complete salvage can be achieved after brief episodes of ischemia of less than 20 min, whereas nearly complete necrosis of the area at risk occurs with reperfu...

Relationship of T2-Weighted MRI Myocardial Hyperintensity and the Ischemic Area-At-Risk

RATIONALE After acute myocardial infarction (MI), delineating the area-at-risk (AAR) is crucial for measuring how much, if any, ischemic myocardium has been salvaged. T2-weighted MRI is promoted as an excellent method to delineate the AAR. However, the evidence supporting the validity of this method to measure the AAR is indirect, and it has never been validated with direct anatomic measurement...
